Huelva, just as Cádiz, counts with a numerous amount of protected areas. The most protected of all is the Parque Nacional de Doñana.
Parque Nacional de Doñana (Doñana National Park)
The National Park of Doñana, is mainly in the province of Huelva, although it stretches through the Provinces of Cádiz and Seville as well. It measures over 80,000 acres between the park itself and it's surrounding areas.
This park is one of the most protected locations in all of Europe. It homes many different species of migrating birds as well as the Iberian lynx which is in danger of extinction.
Hundreds of migrating birds that cross the Straights of Gibraltar make this park an obligatory stop. Flamingos, Black kites (birds), and storks are just a few that roam around this park year after year.
Parque Natural de las Marismas de Odiel
In between Punta Umbría and La Rábida, lies Nature resting point Las Marismas de Odiel. Seven thousand acres of salt marsh home a numerous amount of migrating birds.
In the province of Huelva, you can also find several rest points, for example, Las Marismas de Isla Cristina, or Paraje Natural de la Flecha which are highly protected.
