Cádiz is the capital of the province that carries it's name. It's known as the silver teacup, the city of the sun, of the beach, and of the historical PEPA (Spanish Constitution of 1829), and highly celebrated Carnival. The population is of over 130,000 inhabitants. Cádiz is the capital of it's own province. It is a young city with great ambiance. Miles of beaches and beautiful monuments such as the Cathedral. The Playa de la Caleta (Caleta beach) has also been in one of the last James Bond movies where Pierce Brosnon and Halle Berry did a scene that was supposed to be a recreation of a beach in Habana, Cuba.
It's economy is based on it's industry, large shipyard, and fishing. All factors focused on the sea. From it's port, the hispano-french fleet sailed out to fight against the british in the Battle of Trafalgar. Tourism is also a high source of income for this city.
Famous writer Elvira Lindo, Chano Lobato a famous flamenco singer, Emilio Castelar the president of the I Spanish Republic, as well as the comedian Paz Padilla are some of the famous people that come from Cádiz. |
